Stereo Amplifiers

Amplifiers / Power Amps & Receivers

Amc  AudioSource  Hifi Works  Whole House Audio Distribution  DJ & Pro Audio

Again, as stated elsewhere, Amplifiers are the back-bone of any Home Audio System. When one is referring to a Stereo Amplifier, it usually implies a 1 or 2 channel / zone Power Amp, as opposed to a Home Theater Amp or a Multi Zone Digital Audio System. Also, the term obviously does not imply a Mono Block Amp. As with other Powered Components, these Hi Fi Power Sources provide most of the connections to the rest of your HiFi system. As with others we have discussed, they often include a Preamp that controls which audio source is selected, processes the incoming sound signals, and distributes the audio to the left and right channels. We here an General & Install Necessities carry models by Audiosource, AMC, & others.

Many Stereo Amplifiers are fully capable of running a whole house digital audio system without the need for an additional Power Source. Most have outputs for 4 or 8 Ohm operation. As with other Home Amps we have discussed, some of these units have multiple channel / zone outputs for whole house audio. If they do not have multi channel capability, one will have to worry about low impedance when connecting multiple speaker pairs to one zone. Impedance is a measure of resistance, calculated in Ohms. If too many speakers are connected to one source the ohms or resistance can become low and potentially damage the source. Hence, if your source does not have multi zone/channel capability, one will have to use an impedance matching / protecting device. Connecting impedance matching volume controls in line from the source (in series) will achieve this. One can achieve the same desired effect by connecting the system through a multi zone speaker selector with impedance protection.
