Passive Audio, or line level Outdoor Volume controls are in actuality volume decreasers. One will set their stereo receiver or amplifier at the highest desired level, and the speaker volume control is as an in-line device used to decrease the audio output. Wiring and installing these outdoor line level (and passive) controls is a simple 4 wire in (left + - & right + -) and 4 wire out . You would go from the speakers out on your amp or receiver to the input of the unit, and from the output to the speakers. With impedance matching models, you can connect from 2 to 16 pairs of speakers from one channel left/right output from the stereo. The impedance matching feature adjusts the impedance or resistance, measured in ohms, hence the stereo senses as if there is only one pair of speakers in use. You simply adjust a jumper switch for anywhere from 1 to 16 pairs of speakers.
