As always, your audio system begins with the Speaker Wire! 12 Gauge (awg) Stereo Speaker Cable comes in many models; we have 99.9. . . oxygen free, clear jacket, in wall cl3 rated, plenum rated, 12-2, 2 conductor & 12-4, 4 conductor. It is predominantly used for Pro Audio or Commercial Stereo Systems, and it is also used in high end Home Audio Systems when either dealing with high wattage or extremely long wiring runs, 14 awg being smaller, and 16 gauge being smaller than the 14. However, one must remember that many in wall stereo volume controls will only accept up to 14.
The standard clear jacket spool of 12 gauge speaker wire can be bought fairly in expensively when bulk packaged, but make sure the polarities of the cable are clearly marked, which makes the wiring job much easier. Instead of the all-popular ribbed model, which can be difficult to discern if your fingers get calloused, I prefer the silver / copper coloring that is much more easily discernible. The clear jacket will seldom be CL3 in wall rated.
When choosing the correct model for your application, do not be afraid to ask for assistance. There is a lot of B.S. out there that gets people to purchase something much more expensive than they need, rendering no discernible difference that they will actually be able to hear in their stereo / home audio system. We are here to help, being not merely a company, but self-proclaimed Audiophiles as many of our customers.
